Sergei Bodrov To Direct ‘Samson And Delilah’

EXCLUSIVE: Ashok Amritraj’s Hyde Park Entertainment Group, Skady Lis’ Getaway Pictures and United Channel Movies have greenlit the epic adventure film Samson and Delilah based on the best-selling novel from Ze’ev Jabotinsky. Director Sergei Bodrov, whose Mongol: The Rise of Genghis Khan was up for a 2007 foreign language Oscar, is helming from a screenplay he wrote with Carolyn Cavallero. The picture, which is fully financed by the three companies, is scheduled to go into production summer of 2017 on location in Morocco and Israel. This version of Samson and Delilah is arguably the first big screen version of the Biblical tale since Cecil B. DeMille’s 1949 Oscar-winning film.

Amritraj, Skady Lis and Avraham Pirchi will produce. The project is currently out to cast and various significant names are circling the lead roles. Samson is famed in the The Old Testament’s Book of Judges as a fierce warrior, a wise judge, and a brave defender of his people. Jabotinsky’s book is known to have a unique interpretation of the Biblical story which empowers Samson with supernatural strength, yet at the same time never losing sight of the character’s human qualities. Bodrov is repped by WME. His previous film Legendary’s Seventh Son resonated overseas taking its global take to $114.1M.
